How Do I Give My Koi A Salt Bath?

To create the salt solution, start by measuring the appropriate volume of pond water and pouring it into a Koi bowl. Then, determine the required amount of salt. Introduce the calculated quantity of salt into the water in the bowl to reach a concentration of 0.3% to 0.5%  We recommended dose rate ½ oz per gallon of water,  Thoroughly mix the solution, ensuring that all the salt is completely dissolved.

Administer the Koi salt Bath by first removing your koi from the pond. Place it in the salt bath for a duration of 2 to 5 minutes. If you are using a 3% concentration and the koi’s health is poor, limit the bath to 2 minutes. However if the koi’s health is good and you are using a slightly lower concentration of 2.5%, you can leave it in the bath for a maximum of 5 minutes, provided it maintains its balance.

Should the koi start to lose its balance ( roll over to is side) quickly return it to the pond.

Repeat the process after 24 hours.

There are several precautions you should take to ensure your Koi’s safety. 

Always keep the following points in mind: Do not use regular household salt for bathing your koi. Instead, opt for a salt suitable to use in ponds that does not contain any anti-caking agents, such as our Broste PDV Pond Salt  Additionally, never leave your koi unattended while you are bathing it, as it can lose its balance at any moment. If your koi does lose its balance, it is important to promptly return it to the pond. Always measure the correct amount of salt to use, and regularly check the concentration with a salt tester before bathing your koi, as high concentrations can be fatal.
