Will Koi Eat Pond Plants?

The simple answer is yes koi will eat pond plants , Koi are intelligent and inquisitive fish. By nature, and they are diggers, which is why they have barbels. In their natural habitat, they feed from the bottom and will stir up the mud in search of food. Additionally, they are omnivorous and tend to sample almost anything. When something new is introduced into their environment, such as a water lily, it often turns into playtime for them, and it may also serve as food. Therefore, any plants in a pond, especially if placed in a planting basket, becomes an enticing target. They will root through the soil and ultimately nibble the plant down to nothing.
