What Are The Symptoms Or Signs Of High Ammonia In My Koi Pond?

Koi that face high ammonia levels will show signs of stress. You might see inflammation, burns on their fins and gills, and fins pinned close to their bodies. They may also isolate themselves or lie on the pond bottom. Additionally, your koi might produce too much slime or mucus. You could notice redness on their fins and skin, and they may gasp at the water’s surface. Long exposure to high ammonia can harm their slime coat and skin, damage their gills, and hurt delicate gill tissues. This makes it easier for harmful bacteria and parasites to invade their gills. Always preform regular water test using a water test kit like the Colombo Pond Test Lab Professional.
