What Are The Symptoms Or Signs Of High Nitrate In My Pond?

The build up of nitrates can lead to various problems, such as damage to the blood vessels in the fins and skin of koi, weakened immune systems, and potential reproductive difficulties. Koi experiencing high levels of nitrates may display a lack of energy or lethargic; however, they can temporarily become lively during mealtimes before quickly returning to their previous lethargic state. Over time, fish exposed to elevated nitrate levels may suffer from stunted growth, delayed wound healing, and increased vulnerability to diseases and parasitic infections. Regular water tests can help you to keep on top of this. We would recommend using the Colombo Pond Test Lab Professional. However plants may be added to help reduce nitrates ie: Water lilies or you could use MICROBE-LIFT NiteOut II to reduce hi nitrate.
