What Is An Asagi Koi?

The Asagi is one of the oldest varieties of the beautiful koi fish. Characterized by its calm and understated nature, it may sometimes be seen as an acquired taste. You can surely expect to spot this well-known blue-scaled koi in a nearby pond!

An Asagi koi features a completely white head; however, it’s common for these koi to often exhibit heads with grey tones. Occasionally, the head will develop red pigmentation, at which point the koi is classified as a Menkaburi Asagi, a specific variation of the Asagi koi. When choosing a juvenile Asagi koi, it’s important to inspect the tip of the nasal area. If this area is devoid of spots and imperfections, there is a strong possibility that the head will also become entirely clear as it matures. In certain instances, when the head is bright and clean, the skull may be visible through the skin in young Asagi koi.
