Why Is My Koi Gulping Air?

When koi gulp air at the surface, it often signals low oxygen levels in the pond. This usually happens when water temperatures rise, making it harder for water to hold oxygen so you can add some extra Ceramic Air Stones. Many things can worsen this situation. For example, high plankton levels can use up oxygen, especially on hot days. Long stretches of cloudy or still weather can slow down how much oxygen aquatic plants create. A pond turnover, where the water layers mix, can also disturb oxygen levels for a short time. This shows how important it is to keep an eye on oxygen and maintain the pond.
