Pond Skimmers are a very important and fundamental part of any pond construction, yet are so often overlooked by some pond builders or designers.

Pond Skimmers are designed to remove floating debris, foam bubbles and dust from your pond’s water surface by suction, giving the water a polished look. These easy to install and relatively economical devices can save hours in cleaning and maintenance and really can improve the overall water quality of your pond.

A standard Black Surface Skimmer can make all the difference between enjoying a pond and beginning to resent it. A properly functioning skimmer will collect leaves and anything else that lands on the surface of your pond and collect it into a basket, where it can be easily disposed of. Without a pond skimmer you are sentenced to a life of continually having to clean and remove debris from the pond’s surface. In addition, pond skimmers will remove all this debris before it has a chance to sink and degrade, help to improve the general water quality and aid in the prevention of extra strain being placed on our filtration systems.

Even if you were considering building a pond indoors you should still install a skimmer because in addition to leaves, they skim off the “Dissolved Organic Compounds” (DOC). Dissolved Organic Compounds will form in any pond, and if not removed will cause an unsightly film and bubbles on the water’s surface. Considering the little amount they cost, the benefits are tremendous.

The standard Black Surface Skimmer is an important piece of equipment for any pond, but more essentially for the Koi Pond and it is more often forgotten about at the time of constructing the pond: most koi keepers wish they had put one in at the time of construction.

If you are going to build a new Koi pond then please don’t forget to fit one of these surface skimmers, on larger ponds two or more may be needed and these are built into the walls of the pond at the time of construction.

Have you ever had your favourite Koi badly damaged or even die as a result from its injuries due to it getting stuck in your skimmer, and then having to place a bit of mesh or similar in front only to find the skimmer is not as efficient.

This virtually eliminates water tension on any bar on or near the water level allowing free passage of all surface debris. Anything vertical or horizontal will always prevent total skimming.

The guard itself is manufactured from plastic and completely at home in both fresh and salt water and will safeguard your fish for many years to come.

All the edges of the guard are polished and honed to an ultra smooth finish It is so simple to fit and takes just a couple of minutes.

All You need to do is remove two of the existing stainless steel screws, offer the guard to the opening and replace the two screws. Its that easy!

Oase Aqua Skim 40

The OASE AquaSkim 40 keeps the water surface of up to 40 m² clean and is an ideal addition to the AquaMax Eco Premium models 8000-16000 and Twin 20/30000. The skimmer basket has a diameter of 170 mm. It can be easily adapted to the pond depth thanks to the two-part telescopic tube, which is infinitely height-adjustable from 300 to 800 mm. The skimmer compensates for water level differences of up to 120 mm. The filter basket volume is 1.4 l. The skimmer lets through dirt particles up to 10 mm in size. Thanks to the 350 mm base, the AquaSkim 40 can be fixed to the pond floor with stones that are particularly stable. The small pipe diameter of 80 mm also ensures less air content and thus prevents the skimmer, which has a connection with a universal stepped hose nozzle from ¾ “to 1½”.
