Koi Medic Digital Salinity

The Koi Medic Digital Salinity Tester is the ideal way to test the salinity levels in your Koi pond. This technically advanced device gives fast and accurate results every time. It is very easy to use, simply dip the sensor into the water and read the result.

Using the Salinity Tester each time you add salt to the water will ensure that the water levels have just the right level of salt. It’s important to ensure that the salinity levels are optimised to ensure good fish health and to eliminate parasites in the water.

The Tester uses 4 x 1.5v batteries and has over 150 hours of life. It conserves energy too, thanks to an automatic shut off after 15 minutes.

Please note:

It is strongly advised that you do not add salt directly into the water in large amounts. This may burn the koi. Also check the salinity levels of the water regularly as it can be affected by wet or dry weather conditions.

NT Labs Ammonia Test Kit – Your Key to Maintaining a Healthy Aquatic Environment

Understanding Ammonia: Fish waste, uneaten food, and decaying organic matter contribute to the production of ammonia, the primary waste product in aquariums. While invisible to the naked eye, ammonia poses a significant threat to fish health. Fortunately, beneficial bacteria in the filter break down ammonia into less toxic nitrite, ensuring a safer environment for your aquatic companions.

Correct Ammonia Level: Zero tolerance for ammonia is crucial. Maintain a level of zero mg/l (ppm) at all times to safeguard the well-being of your fish.

What to Do if Ammonia Levels Are Wrong:

• If the level is 0.2 mg/l (ppm), add a filter booster like Filter Bugs.
• For levels above 0.2 mg/l (ppm), conduct a substantial water change. Change 25% of the volume for 0.5 – 1.0 mg/l (ppm) ammonia and 50% for higher levels. Introduce Zeolite to the filter compartment to remove ammonia.
• In case of any ammonia detection, check other critical water quality parameters such as pH, KH, and nitrite.

How to Use:

1. Ensure the test tube is clean.
2. Collect a 5 ml water sample into the test tube.
3. Add 5 drops of Ammonia 1, 5 drops of Ammonia 2, and 5 drops of Ammonia 3.
4. Replace the test tube cap, shake thoroughly, and wait for 10 minutes.
5. Compare the colour of the sample to the provided colour scale. A yellow colour indicates zero ammonia, while any hint of green signals the presence of ammonia in the water.

Additional Information:

• The test kit reports concentration in terms of nitrogen (NH3-N) for compatibility with reported safe concentrations applicable to fish and plants.
• If interested in the ionic concentration, multiply the result by 1.21 (NH3-N).

Nitrate is relatively harmless to freshwater fish, but its presence can indicate a deterioration in the aquarium environment, and high nitrate will encourage algal growth.

The only way to know what the nitrate level is, is by testing it with a Nitrate test kit.
